Justice and Peace Commission

'If we recall that "Jesus came to preach the good news to the poor" how can we fail to lay greater emphasis on the church's preferential option for the poor and the outcast. Indeed, it has to be said that a commitment to justice-and-peace, in a world like ours...is a necessary condition...Christians will have to raise their voice on behalf of the poor.' Tertio Miiennio Adveniente 1994

The Justice and Peace Commission has been set up by the Bishop to advise him, and the Council of Priests, on Justice and Peace issues. The Commission is also charged with the duty of bringing together those in the Diocese with an interest in Justice and Peace issues, and to encourage the exchange of information and appropriate action.

Fairtrade Diocese

Once half of all parishes have gained Fairtrade Status, the Diocese can itself apply to CAFOD for Fairtrade Status.
The recent survey of parishes has shown we have 7 Fairtrade Parishes
already, and a further 17 which either meet or are close to meeting the
criteria.
